Africa investor attracts over $1 trillion of capital at the New York Stock Exchange
Johannesburg, New York, 26 September 2013: Africa investor (Ai), a leading international investment and communications group, has announced that the Ai CEO Institutional Investment Summit has been successfully concluded at the New York Stock Exchange.
The Summit, held in association with NYSE Euronext at the New York Stock Exchange, attracted over 250 global investment leaders, pension funds, CEOs from African listed companies, fund managers, regulators and stock exchanges.
The invitation-only CEO Summit was opened by Hubert Danso, CEO of Africa investor, and Scott Cutler, Executive Vice President, Head of Listings, at NYSE Euronext, who gave the Keynote Address. In-depth CEO panel discussions included a high-level interactive review of Africa’s capital market investment climate, African pension fund capital supporting Africa’s growth, a global investors’ roundtable on Africa, Africa’s investment success stories, and the asset classes to watch in 2014.
Africa investor, in partnership with the UN and the Global Partnerships Forum, also hosted the third annual Ai Advisory Councils’ African Heads of State Investment Dialogue. The Dialogue was moderated by Amir Dossal, Chairman of the Global Partnerships Forum, and was opened by Ambassador, Maged Abdelaziz, Special Adviser on Africa for OSAA, United Nations.
The presidential message was given by H.E. Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda. In his address, he outlined the many opportunities available in Uganda, as well as East Africa, including agriculture, resources, and newly-found oil. The session continued the agenda for the Africa investor Heads of State Investment Advisory Council, to collectively research, lend advice and take practical steps for the increase of capital flows to Africa.
President Museveni’s address was followed by H.E. Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, who set out the African Union’s vision and commitment to engage the investment community in partnership with Africa investor. H.E. James Wani Igga, Vice President of South Sudan, also joined the panel, as did Hon. Seth Terkper, Minister of Finance for Ghana; Hon. Olusegun Aganga, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Nigeria, and Hon. Claver Gatete, Minister of Finance, Rwanda.
Commenting on the successful outcomes of the Summit, Hubert Danso, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Africa investor, said, “The Summit achieved its aims, which were to facilitate knowledge and assist African pension funds allocate and invest more across borders in Africa; secondly, to establish a platform for African and international pension funds on co-investment partnerships, and to inform the agenda for the Africa investor Heads of State Investment Advisory Council’s support to the African Union’s agenda to mobilise domestic capital, with our defined and stated goal to collectively work to and increase intra-African investment flows from the current 5% to over 60% in the next 10 years.”
The evening also saw Africa investor host its 7th annual Ai Index Series Awards linked to its Ai Index Series (regarded as Africa’s Dow Jones). Ai Award winners included Africa’s stock exchanges, regulators, listed companies, fund managers, stockbrokers and analysts.
