Johannesburg, South Africa; New York, USA; 17 June 2016: Africa investor (Ai), a leading international investment and communications group, today announced that a high-level contingent of African capital market leaders will speak at the 9th Ai CEO Institutional Investment Summit at NASDAQ in New York in September.
African exchanges have a market capitalisation of about US $1 trillion, with 23% of this value located on exchanges outside of South Africa. In 2015, Africa’s exchanges increased in dollar-denominated value by 17%. Although 2016 is proving challenging so far, Africa’s capital markets continue to reflect the need for investment, and continued appetite from investors, as they become increasingly competitive globally.
Among those representing African stock exchanges will be Mohammed Omran, Chairman of the Egyptian Exchange; Sunil Benimadhu, Chief Executive of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius; Anabela Chambuca, CEO of Bolsa de Valores de Mozambique; Moremi Marwa, CEO of the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange; Thapelo Tsheole, CEO of the Botswana Stock Exchange; Brian Tembo, CEO of the Lusaka Stock Exchange, Edoh Amenounve, CEO of the BRVM, and Oscar Onyema, CEO of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
Commenting on the speakers, Hubert Danso, CEO and Vice Chairman of Africa investor, said, “Africa’s capital markets represent a trillion-dollar opportunity and we are pleased to offer a platform connecting US institutional investors with Africa’s capital market leaders to discuss growth opportunities, strategies and deepening relationships in Africa’s public markets.”
The Summit will also host a dedicated African Heads of State Investment dialogue co-hosted by the UN’s Office of the Special Advisor on Africa and the Global Partnerships Forum. Last year’s participating Heads of State included H.E. Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda; H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia; H.E. Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia; H.E. Peter Mutharika, President of Malawi, and H.E. James Wani Igga Vice President of South Sudan.
The 9th Ai CEO Institutional Investment Summit builds on a series of engagements hosted by Ai to provide the international investment community with a convenient and efficient means to engage leaders of influential African institutions in a lasting and meaningful manner. Ai will also be presenting its prestigious Ai Capital Markets Index Series Awards as part of the event which recognise the institutions and personalities improving Africa’s institutional investment climate.
The Ai CEO Institutional Investment Summit will be hosted at the NASDAQ Exchange in New York on the 19th of September. For more information, contact Precious Nkandu on email@example.com or +27 11 783 2431, or go to http://aicapitalmarketsummit.com/.
